Royal Antwerp Football Club Receives Hi-Tech Makeover

The Royal Antwerp Football Club, or RAFC for short, might be the oldest football club in Belgium, but their stadium recently received a much needed update. We were asked by Philips Lighting, now Signify, to look into an architectural and entertainment lighting design for the main building- or as we also call it an “Architainment” solution

Result

The result is an interactive multimedia facade that turns the building into a landmark and adds a story to the surrounding space so that the visitor experience starts the moment fans see the building. The facade allows for original content during each match or event, combining lighting and video in one easy to control solution.

Luc Peumans As a child, Luc was already fascinated by light and technology, which inspired him to study engineering alongside his musical hobbies. His passion for light took off when he became a member of the Symbolica dance theatre. During his studies, he gained his first work experience as a light technician, designer and operator for national and international concerts and shows. This was the seed for the establishment of Painting with Light in 1999. Luc is a creative perfectionist who will never shy away from a challenge. He cherishes time with his two children Sam and Bo, and he also likes being on a golf course. He cites the “Clouseau in het Lang” concert from 2005 and the 2018 musical project ‘40-‘45 as memorable challenges, that succeeded thanks to groundbreaking and enthusiastic teamwork. Should we even mention that he is proud as punch of his team?
Jeroen Opsteyn Jeroen is a busy man, who has been giving his all as a light programmer and designer at Painting with Light for the last 6 years. Every day, he tries to come up with a new show in a creative way. He really is an ambiance creator who is quick and adept at programming shows. He enjoys the satisfaction of seeing everything come together during the first show after an intense start-up, and the positive reactions from the audience. As a loyal team player, giving away house secrets is not his thing: after all, what happens on tour ... He has particularly find memories of The Bodyguard, his first ‘big’ musical project at Painting with Light. It cost him six weeks of blood, sweat, and tears, but the result was a definite hit.
Katleen Selleslagh Katleen has been a video programmer and operator at Painting with Light for more than 10 years. According to colleagues, she is blessed with an extraordinarily sharp eye, and she is precise, solution-oriented, and persistent. She loves the challenge of new projects, and the energy from the audience during live shows. Among the many interesting projects, Throwback stands out in particular. Long days, it’s true, but the atmosphere at shows is amazing. The ‘old’ K3 farewell tour is still fresh in her memory. Katleen at the top!
Arthur Claesen Arthur Claesen has been working at Painting with Light for 4 years now and is a real jack-of-all-trades, or as he so beautifully describes it: an all-round wizard. And that is completely justified if you take on the role of visual designer one project, the other digital media operator and the next project manager. Whether it's light or video, it actually feels at home in all PWL areas. And that's not surprising. Because every day is different and the variety of projects he gets to work on, make it so exciting for him. The best thing about the job is the special vibes and thrills of the sector. He describes himself as a calm person, stress resistant and helpful. Characteristics that are of course very useful on the road. Which project will he always remember? The Studio 100 musical '40-'45 for which he both produced content and did video programming. “It was an unprecedented and groundbreaking concept, so there were quite a few hurdles to overcome. But all's well that ends well!"
