Het Kunstuur Roeselare
After Mechelen & Hasselt, Het Kunstuur ('The Art Hour') opened at De Sint-Amandskerk in Roeselare on March 21, 2023. A unique museum experience that takes you on a one-hour tour of famous paintings from the 1850s to 1950s. A very accessible way to experience art in a different way.
Challenge
Het Kunstuur ('The Art Hour') always chooses a unique location for the museum experience. For Roeslare, this was the Sint-Amandskerk in the city center. Although the museum experience takes place in a blackbox, a connection must also be made with the church. In order to form a whole, we worked towards a final moment in which the church was beautifully lit.
Result
PWL programmed lighting and video effects that guide visitors for one hour through three rooms where paintings are on display. As soon as the ambilights on one painting light up, a hologram appears simultaneously that will tell a story about the artwork.
By matching the light color throughout the room to the active artwork, visitors are immersed in the atmosphere of that story. Moreover, the total experience was programmed by our team so that everything runs independently according to a smooth timing. This allows visitors to enjoy one hour of art carefree.
Finally, when the visitors would almost forget that they are in a church, a large curtain falls and they see the beautifully lit Sint-Amandskerk where the hologram of Hans & Joost Bourlon, the inspirers of Het Kunstuur, thank them for their visit. A fun experience that can keep everyone enthralled!
