Citadelle de Namur

Originally built in 937 and rebuilt several times, the Citadel of Namur has since the Middle Ages held a strategic defensive position for the city in its role as the capital of Wallonia in Belgium. Nowadays the City of Namur wants to engage its citizens as well as tourists by providing a spectacular illuminated Citadel by night.

Challenge

A perfect example of the vast range of different services we offer is our recent collaboration with the architectural designers of Radiance 35, Philips and Genetec for the Citadelle de Namur. The city of Namur commissioned all parties to create a public lighting show, using the Citadelle as leading object.

Result

PWL was responsible for the creation of the visualizations used for the project pitch by Genetec and Radiance 35. In collaboration with Keystone Technologies, our programming team worked for several weeks in our studio and on site to convert the design into a working concept. PWL supplied the complete control system and show control concept.

The Color Kinetics system allows the City of Namur to host spectacular dynamic lights shows. The newly illuminated Citadel was inaugurated on October 13, 2017 with a stunning light show by PWL to highlight the impressive history of the Citadel and its significance as a European monument.
